The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment's Data Economy Growth Program Launches Sixth Pilot in Collaboration with Health Campus Turku
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has selected Health Campus Turku to implement the sixth pilot of its Data Economy Growth Program. This selection strengthens Turku’s position as a national leader in health technology and the data economy. The goal of the growth program is to accelerate the emergence of data-driven business models and promote company growth by leveraging data, artificial intelligence, and other digital solutions.
Why Health Campus Turku?
Health Campus Turku is a multidisciplinary research, development, and innovation hub that brings together actors from medicine, social and health care, and the wellness sector in the Turku region. Its members include four regional higher education institutions, the wellbeing services county of Southwest Finland, and Business Turku. The network has long been developing the use of synthetic social and health data in RDI activities, and its volume of international projects is significant.
Pilot Content
The pilot focuses on the efficient and secure use of synthetic social and health data in research, development, and innovation activities. Especially anonymous synthetic data offers a partial solution to current data protection challenges and slow permit processes, enabling faster product development and international collaboration.
The pilot will build a national network for synthetic health data, provide a production platform for companies, and organize various events. Feedback on the functionality of the production platform will also be collected to support its development.
Significance of the Growth Program
The Data Economy Growth Program is part of the government’s strategy to make Finland a leading country in data economy and digitalization. The program supports companies’ digital capabilities and demonstrates through practical examples how data can generate profitable business. Health Campus Turku now joins the ranks of pilots such as the automation of the Port of Oulu and the Kainuu data center ecosystem, which are building a lifecycle-sustainable data economy.
